Who will bag the 2014 World Champion title?
The Red Bull Air Race season 2014 is coming to an end with a big showdown in the Austrian town of Spielberg this coming weekend. The first pilots have already arrived and started inspecting the course on Thursday; they are now busy getting their planes all geared up for the big day.
Despite really bad weather conditions Hannes Arch took a first recce flight and was accompanied by defending champion Paul Bonhomme as well as Frenchman Nicolas Ivanoff and Peter Besenyei from Hungary. Arch knows that the upcoming race will be the season's most difficult one. After all, with 65 meters difference in altitude between the start and finish line, the Red Bull Ring is quite a task. Hannes Arch is lagging five points behind the overall leader Nigel Lamb, nothing to get too nervous about. He is confident and prepared to give it all in order to win his second World Champion title after 2008.
The finals on the weekend are a 'home race', so to speak, for Arch who hails from this area, and a wave of support from his local fans will be a given. “Flying at home is always special. I am not nervous yet but this is sure to change come Saturday and Sunday. It is good and important to build up tension before a race - like this I will be able to call upon all my power. I get so much positive feedback and receive so many good wishes and I feel like everyone is backing me. This is truly motivating and gives me energy,” says Arch. Will this energy be enough to carry him across the finish line in first place and crown him as the World Champion 2014? We will know more on Sunday! Stay tuned …
