Hannes Arch‘s aerobatics - a highlight at the Airpower11

Flying at home is as good as it gets – Hannes Arch returned for this year’s Airpower11 to Styrian airspace and demonstrated his aerobatic skills. The crowd not only enjoyed a very special show but could also talk shop about flying at the meet and greet with the Red Bull Air Race World Champion of 2008.

Happy and with his newly overhauled, now even more powerful world-championship air-plane, the 43-year old took off into his well known Styrian air. Putting aside classic aerobatics the Trofaiach-born showed something special for the crowd – some 300,000 came for the weekend to the air-base Hinterstoisser – on home turf. The five minute long soloist display was loaded with loopings, daring landing and take-off maneuvers and some tricks that “don’t even have a name yet,” commented the Styrian-born. “The air-show is practically speaking on my front yard, so I wanted to give the crowd something completely new, a lot of those tricks just come to me midair.”

Back on the ground at the Styrian air-base there were no signs evasive maneuvers. The European Freestyle Champion of 2006 stayed with his fans for tech-talk and signing cards: “My fans mean a lot to me and most of the time they only get to see me from a distance in the air. When I get a chance meet with them for some tech-talk and taking pictures, that’s just fine with me.”

A mechanical problem at his Zivko Edge 541 HA grounded the passionate pilot on Sunday.

On the upcoming weekend the Air-Race pro will take off once more. His new project “Rhythm & Air” will premier in Europe on July 9th at the Scalaria Air Challenge 2011 at the Wolfgangsee (Lake Wolfgang).
