The elimination in Monument Valley
The breathtaking backdrop of Monument Valley in the heart of the Navajo Nation in Utah served as the setting for the 3rd leg of the Red Bull Air Race World Series. After making it through the qualifying round, Hannes was cut in the semi finals rounding out the race with a 10th place finish. Rising temperatures, high altitude and treacherous terrain made this race one of the most challenging yet, but Hannes had no complaints and was happy with his overall performance. "Each race is a learning experience for me and a chance to improve my skills and find my rhythm. In this course I was able to improve my technique of flying fast through the gates." This technique seemed to pay off as Hannes clocked in several split times that were among the fastest in the entire race. In the elimination round, Hannes had the 5th fastest time during the first half of the course, but lost time the second leg of the course when he played it more conservative in order to account for the thin air. "Ultimately, I could have pushed a little harder during the elimination round, but I am very satisfied with the end result". With his strong 4th place finish in Rio, Hannes now ranks 6th place overall.
